* Classes are on...!
Okay, it looks like the wet stuff has passed. Rain may develop later but we’re going to fly until then! We saw very little rain yesterday until later in the evening. The first few classes of the day were energizing & fun! I got to fly with Jen E. & Margaux again; we seem to almost never be in classes together. There was a new flyer, Nikki, who took to flying as easily as a bird due to her background in gymnastics & diving. She & Gina caught their splits with Ronnie R. Amy G. was nailing her Pull Over much to her own surprise & delight! Dena took her last class of the season with us before she heads back to school. Also, we’d like to wish her a happy birthday!! Great flying, Dena! And, after taking a class with us in the morning, Renee made & hosted an exquisite dinner for some of us. Thanks, Renee! I love how trapeze may be not only an occupation & exercise but also a source of community & friendships. “I could have gone on flying through space forever.” (Major Yuri Gagarin, first man in space) – Dino *

OK, now that sounds more like me. Happy birthday, Dena!

* Let's fly...!
Happy August 14th! There’s supposed to be some rains later today, but we’ll see. Remember, we’ll update our site as the weather unfolds. Life is too short to worry about the weather or other things we can’t foresee or control. As students, many of you have come a long way toward controlling & honing something you once thought was wild & daunting: your flight. You needn’t look further than Jen E. who is very tough on herself or Nina & Renee who met my challenges to them with excitement & dedication, or Anush & Fred who work so hard & never give up until they conquer a position. As a school, we’ve all come a long way this season despite the challenges thrown in our way. We’ve opened Baltimore & are looking forward to other locations. There will always be things we can’t foresee or control. But, we’ve proven there are things we can surmount & manage no matter what. And, best of all, we get to do this outside, in the sun & together. It’s funny where you take life. “It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life...” (Green Day) Let’s fly. – Dino *

I had to slightly change & paraphrase the quote above. It was so hokey & flaky that I had to gag. I'm not even sure I wrote it! It was sounding like some fake hack who insincerely preaches Zen & community. On the bright side, Jason F., Skye M. & Illa S. are visiting in my new town! It's great seeing, hanging out & catching up w/them. In some senses, it feels so long since I've seen them. But, once we get talking, it's like no time has passed. I look forward to the rest of the weekend w/them...!

* 8:30am class cancelled.

The 8:30am class is cancelled due to impending rain. The forecasting is calling for more rain later today, but we’re hoping for the best & expecting this to pass quickly. We will update our website throughout the day. I’m happy to see students such as Laura, Paula, Evelyn, Deb, Karen, Maya & Nicole take our intermediate training to advance their flying to the next level. We’d like to wish Laura a belated happy birthday! Ahmir made his first catch with us the other day; perhaps he’ll give up his life in the District Attorney’s office for a life in the circus! My Catherine was such as a great help during that class. She’s working hard on catching her Whip, & she’s started work on her swing. Amy G. was back flying with us after a brief hiatus. Amy W. is slowly becoming another hardcore addict of flying! Jack & Spencer were flying with us again; Jack was close to catching his Cut Away with me. We’ll get it, Jack! Caryn made one of her best & smoothest splits catches yesterday with our Arlie. It’s great to be alive!! “Instead of our drab slogging forth & back to the fishing boats, there’s reason to life! We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence & intelligence & skill. We can be free! We can learn to fly!” (Richard Bach) – Dino *

* Wonders abound & beauty surrounds us...
Yesterday was a great day indeed! We had a fun Kids’ Class once again early in the morning. Elan & Ariela were perfecting their Bird’s Nest positions & leading some of the other little ones to catch their Knee Hangs! Alessia & Kristin were catching like they’ve done this before; I hope to see them again soon. Nina brought her intense, little Laura who flew very well. And, Renee caught her Back End Splits!! Congratulations, Renee!! It is so amazing to see the progressions of both Renee & Nina. As their instructor, I set some goals for them & they wholeheartedly rose to the challenges. “Give up your treasured wounds. Let go the tempting memory of the pain. Give up the vows you’ve taken, and you will live, and you will learn to fly again, and you will fly.” (Ed Freeman) Let’s fly. – Dino *

I always felt that the sign of a good instructor is how they deal w/kids. Very young flyers require a little more patience b/c they're still learning their bodies, what their bodies can do & to deal w/the changes those bodies are constantly going thru. A good instructor can see the potential in these kids. A bad instructor, on the other hand, will never be able to see the potential in older flyers (from teen-agers to adults) who have already known & accepted their bodes. The kids class was always such a joy & something to look forward to each week. I remember setting goals for both Nina & Renee, virtually throwing it in their faces as challenges. In instances like that, I'm am so happy to have them throw back their successes into my face. (Happy birthday to my cousin!)

* Excellent day for flying...!
I love today’s weather: nice, cool & dry with little winds. Excellent. We are deep in the midst of the season for sure. We have quite a number of students at the point in their trainings with 3 to 4 front end tricks under their belt (pun intended) & working on their swings. It’s awesome to see such widespread progressions. Samantha W. & I were trying to recreate her returns to the fly bar. We finally found a trick to challenge her: the Pull Over Shoot! She’s determined & I’m sure she’ll catch it before long. Michelle is progressing with her swing rather nicely. The mighty Fix, wonderful Olivia & beautiful Ronnie were working the classes & crowds to everyone’s delight! And, let’s not forget that success is measured in the efforts & sacrifices made to achieve it. Sue was given a surprise class from her friends, & Sue hates heights! Nonetheless, she earned her own success just by getting up to the board a couple of times. There are days you can hardly wait to pass & there are days you wish would never end. Virtually all the days at our rig are of the latter variety. “It’s wonderful to climb the liquid mountains of the sky…” (Helen Keller on flight around the world) Always have a great day. – Dino

It's funny that the Pull Over Shoot challenged Samantha W. so much b/c one of her current go-to tricks is the Pull Over Forward Over. I remember this as a time just before an explosion of talent from our students. Many of them broke thru their plateaus. Then, we had lots of students working on forward overs & doubles. Layouts were becoming pretty common. And, almost everyone had a swing to differing degrees. Then was a great time. (Happy birthday to my Aunt!)

* Strangers to the grounds...
Today is going to be very cool & Autumn-like. We had a lot of frequent flyers yesterday. Laura is catching her Pull Over Shoot so easily nowadays. Tricia is making good progress with her swing. I expect both of them to be working their back end tricks soon. Joan had a breakthrough with her take off which helped her with her back end splits. Good work, Joan! And, Ali made a solid catch with her Pull Over Shoot. She’s such a strong flyer; I wish she wasn’t leaving back for school so soon. So, come over & take either a flying or static trapeze class with us. Nowadays, you can even try out silks/fabric! On some days, our rig grounds look like a “Commando/Ninja training facility!” “My [mind & body are] quiet, and for a moment still an alien, still a stranger to the ground, I am home.” (Richard Bach) – Dino *

(Happy birthday to my older brother!)

* Beauty here & down there...

July’s weather was unpredictable & sometimes harsh, but today will be absolutely gorgeous with cooler temperatures, lower humidity & mild winds. Catherine & I took a last minute trip to visit my brother & his family in Maryland, & we couldn’t pass up the chance to see Brian’s Baltimore rig! If you haven’t already done so, you have to take a class down there on his serene rig. We conveniently grabbed a bite at the Inner Harbor. Then, I watched Emily, Jeff, Scout, John & Brian work their beautifully clean rig. It’s so pleasant that instructors don’t have to shout commands at the top of their lungs to be heard. I got to fly with & catch a couple of people including my nephew, Derick. The only downside is that I miss Brian even more. “There is the sky, which is all men’s together…” (Euripides, 412 B.C.) – Dino *

** Classes are on
Good morning. Confronting and working through fear, celebrating a birthday, trying something new, spending quality time with your children, decompressing from a long difficult work day, because there's nothing like it and you can't get enough.... These are some of reasons that people of all ages come to rig on Baltimore's Inner Harbor. I'm so pleased that so many people can come from so many different walks of life, for so many different reasons, and yet all have a positive, empowering, fun and exciting experience. Even had Louise and Mark all the way from Wales decided to give it a shot, and both learned well and got caught! Jeff's locks are starting to look good with all of his hard work. Birthday girl Catherine caught her knee hang, and Leslie learned and caught 2 tricks in one class, and waited for the "hep". Minu keeps amazing us by her new found skill and aptitude as she threw her first back end tricks yesterday, Congrats! I can't name all of you, but you know who you are and I thank you for trusting our team enough to try the flying trapeze. Dino, Benny, and Derek suprised us with a visit... so great to see all of you here! Dino, so great to have you down here, you make flying look so graceful and easy! Come back soon! It's going to be a hot one today, remember your sunscreen and lots of water! Brian **

* LET’S FLY…!!!

We’ve been having quite a time with the rain & heat lately, but today will be slightly cooler & less humid with lots of clouds & light winds. Almost all the classes are sold out today as our students are excited to get some flying in after all this touch & go weather. Recently, Emma caught her Uprise Forward Over!! Congratulations, Emma! She screamed so loudly that she almost burst our Jason’s eardrums! Emma’s fiancĂ©, Alf, may have been inflicted with our addiction as he caught his Knee Hang & worked on his Planche. We’re kicking off this season’s next & final round of the intermediate training. Like the previous rounds, this group of flyers is bringing much spirit & potential to our school. I can hardly wait to see what their fully capable of. “No bird soars too high, if he soars with his own wings.” (William Blake)– Dino *

* 10:45am-12:45pm class cancelled.

The 10:45am to 12:45pm class is canceled. August is off to a wet start. We'll update our website throughout the day. Yesterday was a hot one! Through the heat, young Danielle worked on her Pull Over Shoot with growing success. Renee made great progress with her back end splits! Tall Troy made his 1st Knee Hang catch with me. His hands are so big that I wasn’t sure if I was catching him or if he was catching me! And, Ben was flying very well after a 4 year hiatus. Today's rain affords us a moment to reflect on how lucky we are to have something so wonderful as trapeze to do & share. Never lose sight of that. Remember: when you change your perspective, you change your world. “You haven’t seen a tree until you’ve seen its shadow from the sky.” (Amelia Earhart) – Dino *

Man, I sounded kinda flaky that day w/"reflection" & "perspective". What was up w/that...?! For a moment, I thought someone else wrote the update for that day! lol

* Looking good to go…!

The forecast is calling for a good chance of rain, but for now, we look good to fly. We will update our site as the weather develops. Yesterday, Laura & Tricia went hardcore by taking a static class with our Kristin right after a flying class! Alex is making progress with her Pull Over Shoot. Finally, something to really challenge her. Little Rachel made her first Knee Hang catch with us! Nina’s take off & swing are looking more confident & powerful each time I see her. Good work, Nina! “The heights by great men [& women] reached & kept… were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow) – Dino *

* Beautiful July day…!

We kick off this weekend with warm, gorgeous weather & mild winds from the south. Let’s fly! Remember to drink lots of fluids & stretch. Believe it or not, I actually haven’t been to the rig in two days! Nonetheless, it’s been in my mind & heart almost every minute. Sound familiar? Can you say the same? Just a few days ago, Ruben was so close to catching his Cut Away with me as he got his finger tips on the catch bar. Amy W. & Alex are so easy to catch with their Whips; I can hardly wait to see their progress with their Pull Overs! JC caught his Layout with me consistently & easily. Great improvement, JC! I’ll race you to that Double Layout! Julia is such a strong soul; she stuck with her Knee Hang even as her hands were hurting. Wendy worked on her Layout & kept us smiling! And, Holly & Rosa were born flyers looking beautiful in their first class with us! “Look around, choose your own ground, for long you live & high you fly, & smiles you give & tears you cry, & all you touch & all you see is all your life will ever be.” (Pink Floyd) - Dino *

* 8:30-10:30am class cancelled.

The 8:30-10:30am class is canceled due to over night rains soaking everything & the current drizzle keeping it soaked. Classes today are on weather warnings due to the calls for showers. This weather joined us yesterday but not before we got in a few classes. Ruben was so close to catching his Cut Away with me as he got his finger tips on the catch bar. Amy W. & Alex are so easy to catch with their Whips; I can hardly wait to see how they progress with their Pull Overs! JC caught his Layout with me consistently & easily. Great improvement, JC! I’ll race you to that Double Layout! Julia was such a strong soul; she stuck with her Knee Hang even as her hands were hurting. Wendy worked on her Layout & kept us smiling! And, Holly & Rosa were born flyers looking beautiful in their first class with us! I hope to see them again soon! “Look around, choose your own ground, for long you live & high you fly, & smiles you give & tears you cry, & all you touch & all you see is all your life will ever be.” (Pink Floyd)- Dino *

* The guessing game again…

This morning’s classes are on. We’ll update our website as the weather unveils itself. The forecasts predict clouds in the morning with showers starting in the afternoon. That pretty much means that anything can happen. As always, let’s hope for the best! Yesterday morning, Maleni made my day when she caught her Knee Hang twice with Arlie!! I cheered so hard for her first catch! Laura was tweaking her Pull Over Shoot. Ashley brought Chelsea all the way from Florida & Kat brought Roxy all the way from California to fly with us. The intermediates were flying through their class at a record pace! And, Summer, Margaux, Nina, Nicole J. & Maya were flying with us into the night. Life is wonderful in so many ways! “Leaves falling like speech, sudden turning, bleaching meaning from the grind, from behind, you hear your soul call.” (Tricia McParlin) – Dino *

* A reprieve from the rain...

Today will be cloudy & cool but dry as well, so classes are good to go. Yesterday turned out to be a pretty good day. The kids’ class was sooooo much fun with Elan, Justine, Ariela, Kurt, little Vanessa, Sofia, Saskia, Taylor, Kate & Jeffery! Rob & I even let some of them pull our safety lines for us!! ;-) And, Brian’s Baltimore rig kicked off its season this weekend with a great energy! “Never stop being a kid. Never stop feeling & seeing & being excited with great things like air & engines & sounds of sunlight within you.” (Richard Bach) Always have a great day. – Dino *

* Let’s try this again…

We should be able to make it through this morning. The forecast calls for afternoon & evening showers. We will update our site as the weather unfolds. I’m starting to get paranoid that all the weather forecasters are toying with & laughing at me. Yesterday, we managed to skirt the bad stuff in the afternoon & evening despite the call for rain for all afternoon. Renee, Jen, Jason & Lynn were working their tricks in a very laid back class. Ruth, David & their little girls made the most fun out of that same class! Their littlest one wore the safety belt the whole time but never flew! So cute! A group of beginners (including Liz, Liz & Liz) caught their Knee Hangs for the first times with our Jeff. Let’s hope for the best & try to get some classes in again! “Caution: Cape does not enable user to fly.” (Batman costume warning label, Wal-Mart) Sometimes, you just gotta laugh… - Dino

Saturday, July 24, 2004, New York, NY

* Weather warnings…

Today’s classes are on weather warnings due to potential rains. We squeezed in a class yesterday morning, & we’re gonna try for more today! Forecast calls for showers throughout the day & night. Hopefully, Brian is having better weather as he kicks off his Baltimore season today. We wish him good weather & good flying. In yesterday’s one class, Laura caught her pull over shoot with Arlie. She’s such a pleasant, welcome addition to our flight crew; I can hardly wait for her little ones to be old enough to fly with their mom. Joan returned from a 4 week long hiatus to work on her back end splits. Anush came up a little short of being caught, but I hope she tries it again. Kim made her 1st catch look almost too easy! And, it was fairly evident by the ecstatic look on Jen R.’s face that she loved flying & being caught. “Ours is the commencement of a flying age, and I am happy to have popped into existence at a period so interesting.” (Amelia Earhart) – Dino

* The good, the bad & the ugly…

This morning’s classes are on. We will update our site as the weather develops. The good news is that it’ll feel slightly cooler today. The bad news is that there may be afternoon showers. Yesterday, Jeanne, Lenora, Jay, Tony, Lisa B. & Ruben flew with us. Our group of frequent flyers is growing so fast & so strongly! I love it! Jen K. flew so hard that she got some rips on top of her rips on her hands! Now, that’s dedication! Little Heidi D. has flown back into our fold! And, Nina & Renee have worked so hard & come so far. Their flying is almost incomparably better than it was just a few short weeks ago! “Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.” (William Feather) – Dino *

* It’ll be hot & humid again…

It’s already warm today, & it’s gonna be a hot one. As I always say, please remember to drink lots of fluids & stretch before & during class. Yesterday was a nice one with little Jen K., Karen J., Mary, Maya & Nicole J. flying with us. The ever wonderful Silvan was here once again; she’s such a welcome fixture at the rig that she’s almost like staff! And, Renee was working hard at her back end tricks. It’s great to see how far everyone has come in this season! I’m proud to be associated & flying with these great people. So, come join our ever-widening circle. Take a flying, static or silks class. You’ll be happy you did. “We want the air to unite the peoples, & not to divide them.” (Lord Swinton) – Dino *

As almost everyone knows, Silvan did eventually become staff. And, Renee has not only worked hard on her b/e tricks, but has also caught b/c tricks out of lines...!

Wednesday, July 21, 2004, New York, NY

* The flying & weather are hot...!

It’ll be hot once again over the rig, so please drink lots of fluids. Classes are on, classes are good. This permits good flying as it should. You know we’re now well into the season because all of our flying classes are filled today. If you wanna fly, you gotta sign up early. Yesterday was a great day! Laura & Tricia caught their pull over shoots for the first times! Young Danielle is trying out the Whip & it’s looking good. Dena (with her cut away half) & Emma (with her forward over) were throwing their amazing, “big dog” tricks! Suzy, our Carol, Ruben, Karen, JC, Jeanne & Wendy were all flying high with us. Debora & Kim from “Men’s Health” magazine got to see some of our intermediate flyers in action late last night. And, things are looking great for Brian & his Baltimore rig! “[Flying] fosters fantasies of childhood, of omnipotence, rapid shifts of being, miraculous moments; it stirs our capacity for dreaming.” (Joyce Carol Oates) Have a great day. – Dino *

Tuesday, July 20, 2004, New York, NY

* Warmth of sunshine on our faces...

Today will be warm with clouds, humidity & light winds. Be sure to stretch & drink lots of fluids. We’re back into good weather. Mother Nature loves to toy with me, but I’ve learned to laugh back. Yesterday, the every smiling Evelyn & the inwardly smiling Deb worked hard & progressed with their pull over shoots. They’re such joys to fly with! A class with Elliot, Karyn & John had so much energy in it! The wonderful Karen is prudently creating a strong foundation for her flying. Last night, Nina caught her back end splits! Congratulations, Nina!! And, our team of instructors, from big Paul to the Mighty Fix & from the energetic Olivia to Frederique the French star, is happily honing themselves into a well oiled machine. Yes, the clouds have lifted, and the sun is shining upon us all. “Not by wrath, but by laughter, do we slay. Come, let us slay the spirit of gravity!” (Nietsche) – Dino *

* A little damp, but good to go...!

The grounds are wet this morning, & today will be very humid, cool & cloudy with very mild winds, but there’s not supposed to be any showers today. Yesterday was touch & go with the rains not fully hitting us until the evening. Nonetheless, our flyers who attended were very good sports. Those students (like Paula & Michelle) who had faith in good weather got in extremely good classes yesterday morning! Little Grace & Larry participated in our Sunday morning kids’ class. Those two have stamina! Michelle is developing her one handed take off & began on her swing. Paula made her first unassisted take off & is progressing with her swing! And, in a very exciting moment, our instructor, David, took his Knee Hang & back flip out of lines for the first time! That’ll be the first of many positions out of lines for him. And, instructor Jon G. got caught for the first time on our rig! “If you would lift me up, you must be on higher ground.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson) – Dino *

Sunday, July 18, 2004, New York, NY

* Weather warnings today...

Today’s classes are on weather warning due to potential rains. Under weather warnings, students are allowed to cancel without the regular penalties. The showers may not hit us until this afternoon, so let’s hope for the best & fly as much as we can! We give a belated birthday wish to our MC! And, we’d like to extend extra birthday wishes to Unika & young Renee! I heard from a very reliable source that JP was progressing with his flying during our late night class this past Friday. He’s becoming as much a flying addict as our Margaux! Our Renee is catching her back end whip so comfortably. After persevering so well, Detective Tricia caught her whip!! Maya & Denise are becoming so incredibly easy to catch! And, the talented Silvan & Nathalie were taking more static classes & looking great doing so! “Lend, lend your wings! I mount! I fly! O grave! Where is thy victory? O death! Where is thy sting?” (Alexander Pope) – Dino *

* We’re baaaack…!!

The weather is looking good today! The weather looked kinda sketchy yesterday, but we flew! Today, we will see the return of many familiar flyers after all this rain! Yesterday, Laura was going for her pull over shoot catch. She’s looking very improved, so catching that may be in her near future. The ever pleasant Karen was flying with us, too. And, Jen caught her straddle whip yesterday with Rob! “The natural function of the wing is to soar upwards & carry that which is heavy up to the place where dwells the race of gods. More than any other thing that pertains to the body it partakes of the nature of the divine.” (Plato) – Dino *

Friday, July 16, 2004, New York, NY

* GOOD TO GO…!

The weather’s much better today! There’ll be clouds & winds, but we’ll take it! LET’S FLY!! It’s never a dull moment! Little Ellie got to fly with her mom & brother sans the rain. Our Manisha is catching so easily nowadays. But, please hold onto your catcher, girl! Our Abby got her Matt to catch with us for the 1rst time! We explained to my lovely Catherine it’s called the Whip (not the Glacier!) because you have to open FAST! Mary, Jen K., Margaux, JP, Lenora, Jay & Tony each took classes with us, too. Last night, I hope you caught our flying & our Frederique on the Late Show with David Letterman! They filmed during classes amid the b-day party of Jen & her friends. Everyone was such good sports! And, our Paul, Jon G., Rob, Olivia & Frederique worked as such a great team throughout the day! “We who fly do so for the love of flying. We are alive in the air with this miracle that lies in our hands & beneath our feet.” (Cecil Day Lewis) You gotta love it!! – Dino *

I vividly & fondly remember that day! I remember Manisha's soft grip. Good for her that she's light! I remember having my Catherine in a class; it was me, Arlie & Jon G. Arlie said, "It's called a 'Whip', not a 'Wimp'." I coined the phrase "the Glacier" to describe how slow she was opening up. And, Jon G. said, "Umm... You might wanna open up BEFORE you hit the net..." lol The staff from the Letterman show were really nice (except for that producer...). It was a lot of hurry up & wait, but everyone was good sports (especially the class of birthday party flyers who were really inconvenienced), and a couple of us on staff got royalty checks for as long as almost 2 yrs later!

* Rain, rain, go away…

It’ll be fairly cool with clouds, humidity & slight winds today. The showers visiting us lately shouldn’t make their appearance until this afternoon. We will update our site as the day unfolds. Many of us are itching to get back into the swing of things. As instructors, we’re missing the connection we make with students. On the bright side: we managed to get in most of our classes yesterday. And, I finally met a regular flyer & student of ours: Ruben! Today’s going to be an interesting & busy day! “I owned the world that hour as I rode over it… free of the earth, free of the mountains, free of the clouds...” (Charles A. Lindbergh) Keep your eyes to the sky & stay dry. – Dino *

I still remember that very day I met a very good man, Ruben A. We had each heard of one another for weeks before ever meeting. I was always at the rig, & he was quickly becoming a regular, hardcore flyer. Yet, we never met until that July day. He walked up to me by the rig and said, "So, you're Dino." And, I replied, "You're Ruben." Since then, over the years, he's met my wife & I met his, Patty. I met his son, David, and we've all spent fun days & nights at his shore house. He invented his own, triple-time trick: the Triple Ruben (b/e uprise, hip circle, shoot)! I caught him out of lines. We have worked together, smiling all the while. I hope that I see & fly with my good friend & confidant again soon...

* A bit more dry today…

Morning classes are on! We’ll update our site as the weather unveils itself. Yesterday was a wet one. You have your flyers & your hardcore flyers. JC, Laura & little Eli are some hardcore flyers! They got in a few swings amid wetter & wetter conditions before their class was cancelled. We’re gonna try again today! Things are dry for now with the forecast calling for afternoon showers. Let’s hope for the best! “True hope is swift, and flies with swallow’s wings.” (William Shakespeare, King Richard) – Dino *

Tuesday, July 13, 2004, New York, NY

* 8:30-10:30am class cancelled...

It's still drizzling. The 10:45am-12:45pm class is on a weather warning. We got rained out yesterday, but today is looking a little better. It’ll be wet, cool & windy this morning. We will update our site as the weather unfolds. Yesterday, Silvan, Nicole & a few others got in most of the first class of the day before getting rained on. Our Danny & I used the down time to tweak the rig back into alignment for better flying & safety. “If you are thinking that flying will develop character, will teach you to be orderly, well balanced, will give you an increasingly wider outlook, discipline you, and destroy vanity & pride, enable you to control yourself more & more under all conditions, to think less of yourself & your personal problems & more of sublimity & everlasting peace that dwell serene in the heavens – if you seek these… qualities, and think on them exclusively, why – FLY!” (Margery Brown) – Dino *

* Some rains in our futures...

Today’s classes are on a weather warning due to the calls for showers throughout the day. So, you may opt to cancel without any of the normal penalties. Nonetheless, let’s hope for the best & try to get in as much flying as possible because it’s supposed to rain for the next few days. Yesterday was an exciting day as Galit caught her set whip! And, she did this right after taking a static trapeze class! The ever wonderful Paul & Silvan took static classes as well. Samantha did back to back classes over the weekend & is working her catches well in the apron. And, our very own Jon G. caught his first flyer yesterday night! You gotta love it! “When all the world is a hopeless jumble & the raindrops tumble all around, heaven opens a magic lane. When all the clouds darken up the skyway, there’s a rainbow highway to be found, leading from your window pane, to a place behind the sun, just a step beyond the rain.” (lyrics from “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”) – Dino *

I think this is one of the 1st mentions of the energizer bunny herself, Galit E.! We remember that summer where Galit was the queen of set tricks. Nowadays, she's easily one of our most diverse & accomplished flyers. And, this mention of her above was a forecast of how she likes to schedule her circus duties: back to back classes of flying & static. It wasn't long after all that when Galit became a good friend, then a very dear friend. I still remember the night when she & I were skipping down the streets of downtown Manhattan, off to see the wizard, & in search of Samantha W. (also mentioned above) & her party. And by now, the lovely Silvan has moved cross country to be reunited w/her fiance. Jon G. is, as I mentioned previously, in Canada doing circus. I hope to see each of you again very soon & under happy circumstances...

* It’s looking good…!

It’ll be warm, humid & cloudy today, but that’s not even close to a reason for us to not fly! Remember to drink lots of fluids & stretch out for classes. Speaking of classes, they are full today, but there are a few spaces open in our static classes. Try out a static trapeze class; it’ll do your body good! We’ll be indoctrinating our silks classes soon; keep an eye out for them. On to some great news: Renee made her first back end catch!! She was so adorable as she dismounted from the net, almost shaking as if it were her first catch! Congratulations, Renee! Emma is consistently catching her uprise shoot like it’s old hat! Samantha flies so strongly; I almost wish she’d stop coaching gymnastics & come work for us! Our family of flyers is flying stronger, higher & more confident! “We thought humble & proud at the same time, all at once in love again with this painful bittersweet lovely thing called flight.” (Richard Bach) – Dino *

lol I have the memories of Renee making her 1st catches out of lines! See, Renee, I was right! You have come a long way. Emma G. (formerly Emma F.) has always been one of those kinds of individuals who is uncannily good at everything, much like Doctor Dan W. Emma now is married to her longtime mate, Alf, & they have a little one of their own! I miss you, Emma. The powerful Samantha W. has finished her schooling & still coaches her champion gymnasts. She & I share the same birthday! Like the two mentioned above, Sam's another one of those who is almost sickenly gifted! lol I count myself as supremely lucky to be surrounded by & associate with the caliber of individuals such as these friends.

* A gorgeous day over Manhattan…!

We’re blessed once again with another beautiful day to fly! Winds should be a little tamer than yesterday. Classes are pretty much full today, but there’re still some spots in the static trapeze classes available. Yesterday, the women of Boucher Jewelry celebrated Shannon’s birthday by taking a class with us. We’d like to wish Shannon a belated happy birthday! Tricia & Fred flew beautifully, yet still somehow managed to not get caught!?! No worries. Just imagine how we’ll celebrate once they fully conquer their tricks! Morgan, Tal & Pat caught with us for their first times! And, the young, serious Nicole broke into a smile after finally catching her pull over shoot! “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” (Confucius) Answer, “YES!” when the sky beckons! – Dino *

Shannon & I exchanged emails a few wks ago. She's not flying as much nowadays, but instead concentrating on the success of her own jewelry business. And, to this day, I still hold the owner of Boucher Jewelry, Laura M., as a dear friend & confidant. And, the funny thought of the day involves Tricia. Funny to think back to those times & see that it was possible for her to NOT catch her tricks. Later down our history, I can recall her catching & returning beautifully OUT of LINES! Yeah, I miss Trish. And, there can only be one Morgan, but nowadays we know her better & more dearly by Skye. Goes to show how long ago these posts were! I was calling Skye, "Morgan", & Maryam, "Miriam"! In these early posts, we have yet to see the appearance of some flyers' names who are now staples in the trapeze community...!

* It’ll be a pleasant summer day…

Today will be fairly warm & humid with mild winds & hardly a cloud in the sky. This is the kind of day when wonderful things can happen. There are still a few spots open in our classes. So, if you’ve never tried a class, come fly & enjoy the experience that is flying trapeze. Yesterday, we had many familiar flyers in the air with us from Joelle & Emma to Lenora & Jay to Tony & Lisa, from Robb & Jen to Molly, Silvan & Renee. Someone asked me recently if any of my students stood out in my memory. The question stumped me, so I said, “’Who doesn’t stand out?’would be a much shorter list…” “Deftly they opened the brain of a child, and it was full of flying dreams.” (Stanley Kunitz) – Dino *

* Evening storms brewing…

Today will be very warm & humid with winds from the west & potential storms in the evening. But, until it actually rains on us, let’s fly, fly, fly! We will update our site as the weather unfolds. Some good news is that there are still a few spots open in today’s classes. Now for the very good news: Yesterday, Nina caught her first back end whip! Congratulations, Nina! That’s the kind of success we expect our students to strive for to rise to the intermediate level. “[She] who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand & walk & run & climb & dance; one cannot fly into flying.” (Friedrich Nietzsche) Always have a great day. – Dino *

Nina & her Todd were married years ago & now have a little baby. Part of their wedding celebrations was actually flying on the trapeze w/their friends & family. I was blessed enough to be their catcher for that day. We hope all is well & happy with them...

* Always hope for the best…!

The forecast calls for a warm day with morning sunshine followed by late afternoon thundershowers. But for now, classes are fully on! We will update our site as the weather unfolds. We'd like to wish a belated happy birthday to John, one of our Baltimore school's instructors! Yesterday was a great day! Although beautiful little Aurore spoke only French, that didn’t stop her from making her Knee Hang catch! Luckily for her, we’re a multilingual teaching environment! Amber & Chelsea hung in there to catch their Knee Hangs, too! Our very own fun loving Manisha flew with us! And, yesterday for the first time ever, I CAUGHT MY CATHERINE!! Yes, it was a great day! “Be careful for what you wish. I wished to have a job where beautiful women threw themselves at me. Then, I became a catcher on the flying trapeze…” (Dino Ramos) – Dino *

Since then, my French has gotten worse, Manisha has completed her graduate degree, & I've caught my Catherine in my arms many a times...

* Cooler than yesterday…!

Rain & lightning made us forego some of yesterday’s classes, but it’ll be nicer today! It’ll still be a bit humid yet cooler. Yesterday, Amy held onto her pull over shoot catch! Amy’s friend, Amy (also), took to flying like a natural! Nergis, Melissa & their classmates got in most of their class before getting poured on! We wish an early happy birthday to Melissa! Mother Nature always plays with us; all we can do is play along. This season is really ramping up as classes fill up earlier & earlier. So, try to get into a class early if you want to fly! To loosely paraphrase Charles A. Lindbergh: “Science, freedom beauty, adventure: what more could you ask of life? [Flying] combined all the elements I loved… Adventure lay in each puff of wind… I began to feel that I lived on a higher plane than the skeptics on the ground, one that was richer because of its very association with the elements of danger they dreaded, because it was freer of the earth to which they were bound. In flying, I tasted a wine of the gods of which they could know nothing… I decided that if I could fly for [only] ten years… it would be a worthwhile trade for an ordinary lifetime.” Well said. Let’s fly high! – Dino *

Funny looking back on that day. The first Amy mentioned was Amy Gre., who is now married & w/her 1st child. The 2nd Amy was Amy Gro., who has grown to become one of our staple instructors. Wow. A lot has happened in those years between then & now.

* Rain, rain go away...

Today’s classes are on weather warnings due to scattered showers throughout the day & night. Students will be allowed to cancel out of today’s classes without penalties. Nonetheless, keep the faith! It’s not raining at the moment; so let’s fly as long as we can! The 4th of July was a gorgeous day with good crowds watching our flyers. It was a superb night as our instructors flew with the fireworks exploding in the distance. I’m very proud of Christina for repeatedly conquering her fears by continuing to fly with us. “Success is measured by the sacrifices made to achieve it.” (Unknown) Keep your eyes to the sky. – Dino *

* Happy Independence Day…!!

I hope you’re enjoying your holiday weekend. We definitely are at the trapeze! It will be a warm 4th of July with some winds. Drink lots of fluids & stretch often. Michelle had a great yesterday as she adopted a one handed take off & caught her straddle whip AND splits for the 1st times! The fun bunch of Emily, Catherine, Miriam & others flew for their 1st times! The talented Silvan stopped by to hang out with us before taking a static trapeze class. Young Stephanie made catching look too easy! Nicole & Paula are progressing nicely with their swings. And, Renee is becoming a stronger flyer with each class (whether she allows herself to think so or not!). So, if you’re still in or near the city, take a class with us or stop by to watch! “I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things…” (Antoine de Saint Exupery) Listen closely. The sky beckons to us all. – Dino *

I forget the exacts of that very day years ago, but I wonder now: Was I referring to my Catherine & Maryam W? My apologies for spelling your name wrong back then, Maryam. We hope you're all enjoying your Independence Day wherever you are. It's about 104 degrees here according to my car's thermometer, and I'm gonna catch the cirque Love show compliments of my buddy, Allen M. I think I'm going stag b/c my Catherine is working. So, if you find yourself in my area tonight, feel free to call me b/c I have 1 extra tkt. Gotta love this town for its comps! Have a great day!

* It’s cooling off! Kinda…

Temperatures will be cooler than yesterday & the humidity will be a touch lighter. Nonetheless, don’t forget to drink lots of fluids & stretch. Yesterday morning was a pleasure for me to work as I was surrounded by flyers such as Sasha, Nina, Amy, Silvan, Laura, Lauren, Nathalie, Suzanne, Tricia & Rob! It was almost dream like. We’re running our late night, “midnight” classes now! They’re actually 10:30pm to 12:30am. So, if you happen be up late at night, we’ll be up & flying, too! “I was sold on flying as soon as I had a taste for it.” (John Glenn) Enjoy your holiday weekend! – Dino *

* Hot town, summer in the city…!

It’s going to be a hot one today, so drink lots of fluids if you’re gonna fly & play! And, please stretch beforehand. We had many talented flyers such as Lenora, Jay, Tony & James enjoying the air up there yesterday. Almost all of today’s classes are full, but that doesn’t mean you can’t joyfully watch trapeze as one of the best free spectacles in New York! “Within all of us is a varying amount of space lint & star dust, the residue from our creation. Most are too busy to notice it, and it is stronger in some than others. It is strongest in those of us who fly & is responsible for an unconscious, subtle desire to slip into some wings & try for the elusive boundaries of our origin.” (K.O. Eckland) The sky beckons. Let’s fly! – Dino *

Funny to think that I was complaining it was hot back then. I'm living in temperatures averaging 100 degrees lately, but I find it strangely OK. Haven't heard from & of Lenora, Jay, Tony & James in years. I hope they are each well & happy. We had some good times together. I remember near perfect nights with them flying, me catching, Chrissy on lines & so many round trips followed by the celebratory suicide dismounts. I've lived thru my own times of "Camelot" a couple of times in my life. Here in this new home, we're looking for Camelot again...

Thursday, July 1, 2004, New York, NY

* Let's fly! Let’s fly…!!

There’s a possibility of scattered showers later tonight, but for now, we’re good to go! It’ll be fairly warm with mild winds, so drinks lots of fluids & please stretch. Yesterday morning, Debbie & her fun bunch happily turned a few questionable positions into a class of catches! Hopefully, Debbie will be back soon to perfect her splits. We’re going to see more & more familiar faces flying with us today! Even if you’ve tried out flying trapeze, check out our static & silks program, too! “Flyers have a sense of adventures yet to come, instead of dimly recalling adventures of long ago as the only moments in which they truly lived.” (Richard Bach) So, bring your friends. Bring your kids. Bring your friends’ kids! Just come on out & join the learning & fun! – Dino *

* A paragon of summer days…

All classes are good to go on this beautiful, warm summer day! Remember to stretch, drinks lots of fluids & smile! It was great yesterday with Austin, Johann, Melissa, Delilah, Amy, Lee & David catching for their first times with us! Meg looked beautiful as she took up her splits position again. There was such an awesome energy last night with Paula, Galit, Janet & Amy flying. We welcome Rob, our newest instructor, who was initiated onto the team by catching our intermediate students: Emma, Joelle, Sean, Carol, Jason & Lynn! We also give a belated yet warm welcome to another one of our new instructors, Jon G.! To paraphrase: “To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love [trapeze], the sky is home.” Let’s go home. – Dino *

Last I heard, Rob T. (kiwi from NZ) returned to his home back on the other side of the world w/his girlfriend in tow. He's teaching trapeze on a rig w/his twin brother, Frank. Good luck to them all; we wish them well.
And, the luminous Jon G.! Last I heard of him, he was not only in Canada, but he IS Canadian! Love it so much up there in the land of frozen milk & honey that he became one of them! Good for him! Canadians are some of the nicest people in the world. I should know; I married one! Good luck, Jon.

* Starting off cool & getting warmer…!

It’ll grow warmer thru today with light winds. There’ll be clouds but no showers. Just yesterday, Tory & tiny Emma flew with us all the way from North Carolina! Doctor Dan tried out the difficult “mod” position before throwing strong planche catches. Tricia stayed long enough to make great progress with her pull over shoot! Mary, Paula, Jacob & Nicole are getting the hang of their swings. Rochelle made her 1st catch with us! And, the Amercorps group joined us for some flying. “I feel a strange exhilaration up here which seems to come from something beyond the mere stimulus of flying. It is a feeling of belonging to the sky, of owning & being owned, if only for a moment, by the air I breathe. It is akin to the well known claim of the swallow: each bird staking out his personal bug-strewn slice of heaven, his inviolate property of the blue.” (Guy Murchie) The sky beckons; let’s not wait. – Dino *

Monday, June 28, 2004, New York, NY

* We’re good to go…!

Today will be sunny & cool with low precipitation as winds pick up only slightly. There’s supposed to be scattered thunderstorms tonight, but we’re good to go for now! Just a day ago, Sharon celebrated her birthday (which is the same date as mine & Samantha’s!) by taking a class with us. She & some of her friends were getting caught in front of a great crowd of spectators! Paula took a static trapeze class with Kristin & is also taking a flying trapeze class today! She does it all! And tonight, we will be concluding this season’s first round of intermediate training! Congratulations to the new intermediate students! “Man must rise above the Earth to the top of the atmosphere & beyond, for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives.” (Socrates) Can the sky come out & play?! – Dino *

Sunday, June 27, 2004, New York, NY

* A very pleasant day…

Today will be cooler, less humid & less windy than yesterday. So, with no doubt, all classes are on! We have the Sunday morning kids’ class; I can hardly wait to fly with the wee ones! Yesterday, our static program got off the ground (pun intended) with Kristin teaching the likes of our Silvan & Nathalie. Jen, Renee, Jen, Jason & Lynn were all flying fresh from the festivities of the night before! Along with her improved pull over shoot, Amy brought delicious birthday brownies for me. They were so good that everyone left only one for me! And, MC’s very own urban myth of a husband, Dylan, made an appearance! CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE IN THE AIR!?!! “Courage is the price life extracts for granting peace. The soul that know it not, knows no release from little things. Knows not the livid loneliness of fear, nor the mountain heights where bitter joy can hear the sound of wings.” (Amelia Earhart) The sky beckons us to learn & play! Do not deny it! Do not turn away! – Dino *

Saturday, June 26, 2004, New York, NY

* Morning weather warnings…

The 8:30-10:30a.m. & 10:45a.m.-12:45p.m. classes are on weather warnings. Coincidentally, I’m working the later classes, Emma! We’ll update our site as the day progresses. Today, we kick off our static trapeze classes! Yesterday, tiny Olivia was caught to the crowds’ delight! Lindsey, Maddy & Maggie made their 1st catches with us! Katrina & Doctor Dan flew high & strong. And, I caught Silvan’s layout! I am a lucky man to have work I love while surrounded by a dear family of friends. From the bottom of my heart (& top of my tights!), I thank each of you for helping me kick off my next trip around the sun. There are literally too many people to name here. But, I thank Brian & Dana for arranging my gracious presents. And, I thank Renee & Jen for arranging my affair to remember. “Tell me what company thou keepst, & I’ll tell thee what thou art.” (Miguel de Cervantes) I am talented, beautiful, generous & loving. Thank you, thank you, thank you, all. – Dino *

Recently, I saw Doctor Dan at a farewell party as he leaves one wacky city for the wild & crazy land of Lancaster, PA! It was good seeing him before he left. He looks happy & well. We wish him well & good luck with his move & this next chapter in his life.

I remember that party for my birthday in 2004. Each of you, my friends, showed up wearing something coral colored (or, pink, as many like to call it). I got a HP PocketPC for a gift from dozens of you. And, I still think of all of you b/c that PocketPC has withstood the tests of time, wear & tear, and it is still w/me to this day. Unbreakable as my memories. We took over that little downtown club that night. I remember hearing that guys none of us knew were hitting on the girls in our massive group by asking, "So, you know Dino...?" They just heard my name here & there, then used it to talk to the girls there that night! W/the size of our group, it was a very decent chance that line would work! Thanks again for a great night to remember...

Friday, June 25, 2004, New York, NY

* Rain later today…

But, for now, let’s learn & play! There are supposed to be thunderstorms by the middle of the afternoon. Until then, temperatures will be warm with a good amount of humidity & light winds. If you’re in the first couple of sold out classes with me, it won’t rain on us. Coincidence? I think not, Emma! Just last night, I was by the rig & it was nice & cool. Lenora’s back end splits catch is getting so smooth! Joelle is getting closer & closer to that return bar each time! Ross is making progress with his swing. Jay & Tony are back to throwing their layouts to a catch. Kennedy made her first catch ever! And, I’d like to wish a special somebody the happiest of birthdays: ME!! “Old age is like… flying through a storm. Once you are aboard, there is nothing you can do about it.” (Golda Meir) LIFE IS FOR THE LIVING!! – Dino *

Happy birthday, to us, Samantha...!

Thursday, June 24, 2004, New York, NY

* A little more of everything today…

Compared to yesterday, today’s weather will have slightly higher temperatures with a little more humidity & slightly stronger winds increasing throughout the day. Not to say either day is better than the other, but yesterday did have its own magic. Some people & relationships seemed to be coming together like smooth catches. Silvan, Nikki & Melissa were flying with us once again. Kevin made his first catches with our Paul. And, I got treated to the wonderful Cirque du Soleil show, Alegria! Oh, yes, yesterday was just perfect. “A ship in port is safe, but that is not what ships are for. Sail out to sea & do new things.” (Rear Admiral Grace Murray Brewster Hopper) Now, WE beckon at Mother Nature’s door as if we were kids, “Can the sky come out & play?!” - Dino *

Wednesday, June 23, 2004, New York, NY

* I can see clearly now…!

The rain is gone! Yesterday is yesterday, and today brings better weather. Today, we’re starting out cool & getting hotter with light winds coming from the west. Classes are full today, so come out & watch if you can’t come out & play! Yesterday was a wet one, but we still managed to get in some good flying. Joelle started to develop her cut away half turn. She’s come a long way with her flying since last year! Emma, Kiersten & Joelle worked on their angel returns. Lenora caught her back end splits for the first time! Congratulations!! Along with those ladies, Jay & Tony were catching tricks left & right! As always, it was such a pleasure flying with each of them. “Live thy life as if it were spoil & pluck the joys that fly.” (Martial, A.D. 86) Have you heard the call of the air? It beckons to us all. Let’s fly! – Dino *

* We’re on weather warnings for today…

Forecast calls for “summer showers.” (some’re here, some’re there…) We’re on weather warnings for today. When on weather warnings, you are permitted to cancel out of a present day class that you are registered for without the normal penalties. But, flying is about striving! Keep your eyes to the sky & hope for the best! Yesterday was another beautiful day! Detective Tricia is becoming a regular fixture at our school. We had three doctors flying in one class! Doctor Dan came extremely close to catching the difficult forward over with Jonah. It’s always a pleasure to fly with Dan. Our intermediate training is more than half completed. Our intermediate-flyers-to-be are flying better & stronger each week! Lisa, James & the others were making impressive progress learning the half turn to the net. For something new, look into our static trapeze & silks program! It is said that all of us on Mother Earth are separated by only six degrees of separation. I am grateful to be associated with these people I fly with. “… to have [perfect] faith is to have wings.” (Sir James Matthew Barrie) Always have a great day. – Dino *

Monday, June 21, 2004, New York, NY

* A cool beginning to summer…!

It’ll be nice & cool with very light winds. If you see a cloud in the sky, it’ll be a surprise to me. There’s a couple of spots open in the class in the middle of today, so snatch them up if you can! Yesterday was absolutely beautiful. Josh from Oklahoma paid us a visit! It was great to have him with us even if only for a little while. It was fun teaching our Sunday morning kids class! The little ones are not only so cute to watch, but they’re packing some talent, too! Their parents were greatly supportive as expected. The tall Nergis & strong Tanya were catching their splits with me. Some of the hardcore group flew with us yesterday (Emma, MC, Margaux, Jen & Dena). And, I finally got to see our Chrissy catch some flyers!! Very exciting! “We contrive to make the invisible air support us; we relinquish the security of feet on the ground because flying is demanding, delightful, beautiful, because we love it. Very few of us are actually crazy, & nearly all of us manage the risks as well as we can, but we all willingly trade some of our security for the immeasurable beauty of the sky.” (Paul J. Sampson) Always have a great day. – Dino *

* A beautiful Summer Solstice…

Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers & fathers to be out there! Temperatures will be on the cooler side today. Precipitation will be zero & winds will be low. Yesterday was fun & a bit warmer. In the morning, Eliot was catching tons of students. Stephanie learned to wait for the “HEP!” as she caught her splits & straddle whip. Ashley celebrated her birthday by taking a class. She showed us she’s a natural by nailing her Knee Hang on her very first time! Samantha was making progress with her Pull Over Shoot. The Big Brothers & Big Sisters & their “Littles” had a fun time with us. Christian yelled out in triumph after his first catch! Call me an idealist, but I had a feeling he liked it. And, we had many regulars flying with us such as Jen, Emma, Nina & Renee. “My soul is in the sky.” (William Shakespeare, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’) It’ll be a great day. Come out & watch or come out & play. The sky beckons us. – Dino *

* Wait til you get a load of today...!

It’s looking good as it should! As the humidity gets dryer, the winds & temperatures will get slightly higher. No worries. Just remember to drink lots of fluids. And, you guessed it: all classes are sold out today! So, come out & watch if you can’t come out & play. I’m a little jealous because I’ve been helping Silvan on her layout & I received an email from her saying Arlie caught it recently! Twice! Congratulations, Silvan! I can hardly wait to see some of the familiar faces that will be flying with us today: Denise, Yadey, Samantha, Jen, Emma, Nina, Jason, Lynn & Renee. Our aerial family just keeps getting grander! “Come to the edge. We might fall. Come to the edge. It’s too high! Come to the edge. And, they came, & we pushed, & they flew.” (Christopher Logue) Have a great day. I know I will…! - Dino *

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

There's supposed to be lots of rain this weekend, so the 1st Club Getaway trapeze weekend of 2009 has been canceled. No worries. Jeff L. & I will be running a 3-4 hr long trapeze workshop/flying-session this Sunday @ the little rig in Brooklyn from 3pm-6pm (maybe 7pm, depending on energy levels). It'll be very nice to see all my friends; it'll be even better to fly w/all my friends! Can hardly wait! Hope to see you there...!

One of my favorite quotes:
"Be still sad heart, and cease repining. Behind the clouds, the sun is shining. Thy fate is the common fate of all. Into each life, some rain must fall." (Longfellow) - Dino

* Weather warnings…

So far, today’s classes are on a weather warning. Rain is supposed to develop later this morning. We’re optimistic & will update the site as the weather unfolds. On the bright side, yesterday was nice. Kesha & Kristen from N. Carolina jumped immediately into the morning class. I hope to see them again soon. They flew with the highly supportive group of Lenora, Jay, Tony, Paula, Denise & Biranit. Christina & her vivacious bunch filled the air with laughter. Michelle, Yael & Nergus each worked on transplanting their beautiful splits positions from the practice bar to the high bar. Instructors Rachel, David & Ronnie stepped up to help with classes to ensure everything moved along well. Weather permitting, tonight is the 2nd session of our intensive intermediate training where students are groomed to fly better & safer. “More than anything else, the sensation is one of perfect peace mingled with an excitement that strains every nerve to the utmost, if you can conceive of such a combination.” (Wilbur Wright) Come fly. The sky beckons. – Dino *

* Another gorgeous day over the rig…!

We’ve got another cool, dry day in store for us at the rig. Winds will be picking up only slightly throughout the day. It’s no surprise that classes are sold out again. Yesterday was a beautiful one, too. Emma flew early in the morning; Amy was catching late night. Molly was throwing her beautiful splits. Dena effectively utilized the things she learned from her intermediate training. Leah made great progress with her splits position. Jason & Lynn threw husband & wife planches. “… mind & spirit grow with the space in which they are allowed to operate.” (Krafft A. Ehricke) Always have a great day. – Dino *

* The sun is shining…!

It’s Saturday!! The sun is shining rather brightly! The birds are chirping quite loudly! Temperatures are nice & cool. Winds are light. And, there are virtually no clouds to speak of! Every single spot is filled on this beautiful day. Luckily for those not already in a class, trapeze is an excellent spectator sport! Yesterday, Aussie Leonie celebrated her birthday by taking a class with her Jason at our school. The wonderful Detective Tricia started working on her pull over with promising success. The ever cool Robb was developing his back end planche, while the always charming Silvan was honing her layout. It was an interesting sight to see our Brian rigging some climbing challenges on the site. And, we welcome back Instructor John from Baltimore as he helps us out in the Big Apple. “It’s wonderful to climb the liquid mountains of the sky...” (Helen Keller) Come fly, the sky is calling. – Dino *

* Temperatures are cooling down…

Classes are on! Classes are full! Winds are light & temperatures are cool. Our season gains momentum, & the skies beckon us. This’ll be a nice day to fly. So, if you’re not already in a class, you can still come out & watch. This morning, Paul, Arlie & I will work your rig. I can hardly wait to see returning, familiar faces such as Silvan, Robb & Tricia! “The air up there… is very pure & fine, bracing & delicious. And, why shouldn’t it be? It is the same the angels breathe.” (Mark Twain) – Dino *

* It gonna be a hot one…!

The forecast is for a hot day with some winds. Remember to drink a lot of water if you’re taking a class with us. There are still a few open spots in today’s classes. Yesterday, little Grace, Anna, Cassidy & the rest of their munchkin crew flew with us. The intermediates were flying high & catching their tricks. The late night class with Meg, Amy, Perry & the rest was a hit! You should see Chrissy in the catcher’s trapeze! She’s developing well. “Don’t let the fear of falling keep you from knowing the joy of flight.” (Lane Wallace) Come fly; the sky is calling.- Dino *

* The sun is shining…!

The sun is out to play. Are you? Today will be cool & sunny with a few cloud & light winds. There are still a few open spots, so you better sign up quickly! We managed to squeeze in a few classes yesterday despite the rain. The first class was full of excited flyers that wouldn’t let a little moisture stop their class. Denise, Biranit, Melissa & Nikki were among those who weathered the weather. Wesley & his mother came out to try a swing or two. We had a fun staff flying session with salsa music playing in the background. David, Frederique, Arlie, Kristin, Rachel & Manisha got to get some catches in. Let’s start off another week with more fun & flying! “I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things…” (Antoine de Saint-Exupery) – Dino *

Once again, I find myself wondering where some old friends are & how they are doing. Biranit left the US years ago to live in Israel, if I recall correctly. Arlie is up in VT, married & with another young child. And, Manisha finished grad school a few years ago...

* Once again, the forecast calls for some showers. Temperatures will be cool with moderate east winds. We avoided most of the wet stuff yesterday & I believe we can do it again! Today, there's many free activities near the rig! There’ll be a 5K walk, free boat rides, mini golf & TRAPEZE! We will be open to the general public. So, if you haven’t tried out trapeze yet, give it a swing! Yesterday, Theresa hung in there like a champ. Jason flew higher than ever before & his beautiful wife, Lynn, threw new tricks. Stephanie & her wild bunch added so much energy to the rig! Brian & Armie flew with us for the 1st time. JC was going for that layout again. Chris the surgeon is learning so fast! And, you guessed it! MC, Jen, Jen, Margaux, Dena & Emma were out flying again! “Be like the bird in flight, pausing a while on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, yet sings knowingly, that she has wings.” (Victor Hugo) Always have a great day. – Dino *

Looking back at that day & thinking of some of those people now, makes me wonder where all our friends have gone to. Jason & Lynn moved out west. MC is getting married. Margaux should have completed her MBA in Philly by now. And, Jen E. is in Seattle, last I heard. We hope they're all well & happy.

* Looks like a wet one...

The 8:30-10:30am & 10:45am-12:45pm classes are on a weather warning for now. We will update our site as the day progresses. There’ll be light showers all day & night with slight winds from the east. But, as always, we’re hopeful! On the bright side, classes are sold out, so it would be a fun, full day of flying! Yesterday, on the other hand, was beautiful! Jackie & Monica were back flying with us. Detective Tricia was reacquainting herself with the splits. Alex was flying sans Skyler, her partner in crime. Jen was honing her layout. And, the rest of the hardcore bunch (Emma, MC, Margaux, Jen, Nina, Jeanne & others) were flying with our Paul, some for their first times! Our own Kristin was performing her beautiful static & rope routines. She is a definite must see! She’ll be performing during early evenings & various other times as the advent to our other circus programs. “Be still, sad heart, & cease repining. Behind the clouds, the sun is shining. Thy fate is the common fate of all, into each life some rain must fall.” (Longfellow) Always have a great day. – Dino *

* Not a cloud in the sky…!

Mother Nature is giving us a morning of sun & zero precipitation! Winds will be very mild & temperatures will be nice & cool. There’re still a few spots remaining in the first couple of classes! We have the makings of a beautiful day for flying! The season is moving along right into the summer. Come out to catch some static trapeze performances by our very own Kristin during some late afternoons. She’ll be ushering in our static trapeze & silks program! Emma has discovered the wonders of a bent-arm force-out! And, the rest our intermediates were flying high yesterday evening. Come down to watch or, if you’re already flying, enjoy your learning. Remember: “Each day, do something you think you cannot do.” (Eleanor Roosevelt). Have a great day. – Dino *

* The mighty Paul is back…!

Our mighty catcher, Paul, is back in town & ABC news will be with us this morning! Coincidence? I think not! Welcome back, Paul! Our forecast predicts some rain for later today, so we’ll update our site as the weather changes. It will be cool temperatures & moderate winds; good enough to fly in! There are still a few open spots in today’s classes! We managed to squeeze in some classes yesterday before the thunder & rain cut us short. James was throwing his beautiful splits & working on getting back to the return bar. Dina flew to the point of exhaustion! Keep an eye out for the indoctrination of our new static trapeze & silks programs! As for our instructors, it was Ladies’ Day in the Catch Trapeze! Jodi, Chrissy & Frederique were each throwing catch locks up high! Have a great day! – Dino *

* Let’s hope for the best…!

The forecast is calling for rain later this morning, but let’s hope for the best! The winds will be mild & the temperatures will be cool. The first class is on & we’ll update our site by 8:30a.m. for the classes after that. All the classes for this Memorial Day are sold out! This’ll be another great day to watch if you’re not already flying with us. This holiday weekend has flown by! Yesterday was beautiful with cool temperatures & hardly a cloud in the sky! Fix was cutting his teeth by catching Emma, MC & Jen and attempting to go for returns! Jordan, Dina, Biranit & Denise were flying with us again. JC & I caught his layout! Kristin is growing as an instructor; she’ll be indoctrinating our static trapeze program soon with some of our other instructors. We had great crowds watching & cheering our students on. And, at the end of the day, we had our staff fly session. The instructors & staff were having fun throwing positions in & out of lines. Chrissy was working on her flexus again. Karen was throwing her half turn/half turn. Jodi is well on her way to becoming a catcher! And, Catherine was working on her take off & split. Come out & watch today! Every day on trapeze is a good day. – Dino *

Sunday, May 30, 2004, New York, NY

Just yesterday, I made travel arrangements to return to NY for the 1st time since leaving. With great excitement & anticipation, I'm gonna be at the Club Getaway weekend this June! Can't wait to see everyone again & fly! Hope to see you there...!

* Gorgeous spring day...!

This will be a pleasantly cool day with temperatures & winds rising only mildly. All classes are sold out today, but if you’re not already in a class, trapeze is still a great spectator sport! Yesterday was windy but so much fun. David is coming along well as a catcher. And, Fix is doing great on lines, boosting students higher & higher! Olivia was working the crowds with positive energy. Frederique was keeping everyone including me laughing! As for the students, Paula was catching with us again & she brought her brother, Rocco, along for the fun. Renee conquered some of her departure idiosyncrasies. Nina is developing her back end whip. It has been difficult for me to leave the rig for the past two nights. Friday night, we were catching in a light wind with cool students, and my Catherine was there with us! Last night, I left the instructors with a fun bunch of students during the last class. The winds had calmed down slightly as they were catching under the lights within a cool night. It was an almost intimate setting watching everyone fly. Yeah, it’s been a good spring… - Dino *

It's interesting, heartwarming & funny to look back on what we were each working on back then. And, two of the person's mentioned in this update below are now married...! (Do you know which two...?)

* Sunny & warm…!

Temperatures will be rising & winds will be picking up as the day goes on. There are still open spots throughout the day. So, if you’re not already signed up, come & take a class! I hope to see my regular Monday morning crew. As for yesterday, it started out cool, got hotter & even rained on us late in the day. Nonetheless, we had our first staff fly session; it was good to see the instructors flying together, learning new tricks. Chrissy is working on her flexus. David is growing stronger as a catcher. Ronnie was successfully catching students as if he were made of fly paper! And, we welcome Emma to the team! As for the students, Eddie celebrated his birthday by taking a surprise class his wife gave him. John, Katie, Nickie, Mike, little Lauren & others made their first knee hang catches! Paula was flying with us again. And, our growing hardcore crew was flying, too. It’ll be a great day! Come out & fly with us! – Dino *

Though we can't fly together for now, we have flown together in the past. So, to let you know that I've been thinking fondly of all of you, here's some memories from our past. Hopefully, we'll be able to create all new ones together again soon...!

"Many people will walk in & out of your life, but only true friends leave footprints in your heart.... Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why they call it the present." - Eleanor Roosevelt

* Looks like another beautiful day…!

Our forecast calls for warmer temperatures with some clouds & light winds. There may be some rain later in the day, but for now, we’re good to go! We’ll update you if the weather turns against us. All classes are full today, and if the weather holds, our staff will be flying together tonight! There’s much to watch. Yesterday, we made some new friends & saw many old ones. Jane & I were catching her beautiful straddle whip! We hope to see her again soon. Renee was progressing with her take off & back end tricks. Jen was throwing her layout again. Fred’s planche is developing well. We’ll see him again in a few weeks. MC is looking more comfortable with her back end tricks. Maria is working on her front end splits. As for our instructors, Allison is getting stronger with each class she instructs, and Ronnie is growing stronger as a catcher! I can hardly wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us! – Dino *
