In her 2nd class ever, Madelyn learned her 1-handed take-off, F/E Whip, Straddle Whip & Splits before catching both the Whip& Straddle Whip! She’s bound for incredible feats.
Newcomers Younit (sp?), Moran & Dalit celebrated Younit’s birthday. B/t screams of delight (& a little fear), Moran & Dalit made their 1st KH catches ever! Jean L. is looking smooth up high, whipping through the air & smiling all the while.
Patty was pretty quiet this night, but her stronger swing was attention grabbing! Lauren took her 1st stabs at her Full Twisting Straight Jump before making some catches w/her Straight Jump w/our Lizzy. And, our Whit C. made her debut performance pulling adults for catches! She did it confidently & competently. Nice work, Whit.

Our flyers are really getting into their swings on our Tuesday night Catch & Return classes...!
The feisty Galit E. made full round trips w/her B/E Splits (regular return) & her B/E Planche w/Double Angel! Great flying, Galit! Super-agile newcomer Brandon is learning his full swing in record time! Debbie D. is chipping away at the difficulties of her swing. The powerful Allegra G. The adorable Lauri W. Looking back...
We started the newest series of classes at our little rig in Brooklyn...! Virtually all of the participants are seasoned flyers as well as old friends. There is the one exception with the newcomer, Brandon, who is showing much promise (I believe he was a former trampoline artist).
Armed w/her great smile & attitude, Debbie D. is improving her swing & poised to learn some new tricks to push her training to her next level. The powerful Allegra G. is honing her Layout & even onto her Double! It's only a matter of time before she's throwing round trips with those tricks! Alpha Girl Zane F. is making some nice, smooth Layout catches of her own. The adorable Lauri W. is applying a sense of urgency with her B/E Splits & she even caught it w/me a few wks ago! Good work, Lauri! Back from her trip to Africa(!), the surprised Kristen R. actually grabbed the return bar for her 1st time! Finally, Kristen! See?! It's not that scary.
The cerebral Susan W. is showing flashes of brilliance as she gets her swing a little more each time. After missing the catches of her Cut Away multiple times, french Emmanuelle C. managed to catch her Cut Away 4 times in a row one night! When asked what was different, she replied, "I opened my eyes...!"

Since Galit does double duty w/us each wk, she's also been working on taking her "Mod" to higher heights w/virtually no travel. And, she's also been working on developing her Cut Away w/the full force out over the board (versus sweeping right into a set). AND, despite her own skepticism, Galit got her Front End Uprise after only a few tries! To shake up her training, the demure Sharron C. has also taken up her B/E Splits catch w/Angel returns. She hasn't quite snagged that return bar just yet, but she's close. And, soon enough, she'll be using this as a "go to" return...!
On Thursday evenings, the superbly capable Karen DL made her 1st return! She's learning tricks & catches & her swing so quickly; soon she'll be onto Layouts & Doubles! Cute nurse Leslie W. is becoming more stable w/her catches as well as with working her returns. She'll be grabbing that return bar soon enough. The elegant Maryam W. will soon be known as the Strong Maryam W.! Even w/some details to be smoothed out w/her swing's timing & positioning, she's still flying sky high & showing off those biceps!

You'd never guess that Emma G. had her little baby boy, Max, only a year ago! Emma is flying strong & has all her high flying tricks back under her belt. Not long ago, the charming & lovable Suzanne Monto made the 1st of her very own "Monto" returns! Instead of the traditional Half Turn return to the fly bar, Suzanne pulls a 180 degree turn in a flat, horizontal position! (Think, if this were on trampoline, it would be Belly Drop to a 180 to a Belly Drop.) Pretty cool stuff!
Our dear, worldly & lithe Emma S. has come such a long way in her flying. Far from her days of when I called her "Gumby", Emma's swing & form now exude so much more power & control. It doesn't hurt, too, that her long, lithe lines contribute to making it all look nice. The determined & focused Emily S. smiled along w/the rest of us as she had a nice, little epiphany w/her swing. I told her to simply present her upper chest toward the ceiling in the F/E of her swing &... relax. The results were immediate & effective. She's been toying around w/her Hox Saulto, and it's pretty close to being caught! And, the very strong Lex R. is returning so regularly that we can hardly ever remember a time when he wasn't doing so! Here's Lex a wk before Christmas:
Just last wk, Lex didn't even take a warm up swing before going for a Hox Off catch & making the return! But, in true flying trapeze student form, he barely ever allows himself to enjoy the moment before becoming his own harshest critic. (We all do that.) The more relaxed real estate agent, Renee F., is in prudent pursuit of recreating her B/E Splits OOM on our indoor rig.
Just this Wednesday night, Strong Island's own Lauren (last name?) surprised herself by holding onto her B/E Straddle Whip long enough for a catch (her 1st in a while w/that trick). The always generous & fun Alex K. has come a long way herself. She's now working on her Layout & catching it regularly. If only she can cut that rotation down at the point of catch... I think we made another convert to our little rig in Brooklyn in the flyer, Peggy (last name unknown). She improved her F/E Splits & her basic swing all in one session w/us! W/her incredible toe-point, our Meghan B. dusted off her gorgeous B/E Straddle Whip, her Half Turn & powered up her swing.
We congratulate our Jeff & Elena L. on the arrival of their first born, Madison! Also, we'd like to congratulate Nina & Todd for their first born, Gabriel! And, congratulations goes out to Renee F.'s brother in the arrival of his son. All of those births in the same, last week of 2007!
Our Lizzy has been catching more often & more smoothly than ever before. Just recently, I got to catch her B/E Splits to a Straddle Cut/Catch w/a 540 return! Yonatan G. has straightened out his swing a little more in between his med school studies. Joining our team is Cody S. from Battleboro (sp?), VT, and Sam G. from Boston, MA! We warmly welcome them to our team. I can hardly wait to see what they're each capable of...!
We say a fond farewell & wish the best of luck & safety to our Lisa R. who is now flying in Cirque du Soleil's La Nouba show in FL. I miss you already, Lisa...

This was a night starting off & ending strong, filled w/laughs & the warmth of friends...!
Lex R. made 2 returns in a row in 1 night for his 1st time ever! Colleen & Lidia from down unda are returning on a regular basis. Kristin R. could've had 3 returns in a row if she just grabbed the bars! Allegra G. caught her Half Turn OOL for her 1st time ever! Emmanuelle C. is flying tighter & straighter than ever w/her Cut Away & Layout. And, when she's patient, she easily makes her returns. Alex K. is learning how really long it takes to work her returns, but she's getting there! Galit E. is throwing some really good Layouts w/incredibly straight legs! We knew she could do it if she only concentrated. I'm not gonna let you do any less from now on, Galit!
Apparently, it was "cookie night"! We enjoyed cookies from Colleen. Thanks, Colleen!
Maggie F. is getting that tension out of her shoulders on the F/E of her swing w/some great results. Sharron C. is really warming up to the pull in her force out! Maryam W. is gradually figuring out the timing of her swing while incorporating a pull of her own. Kristy M. was throwing her Cut Away nicely before trying to recreate her Cut Away return off her B/E Splits catch. Emily S. is looking pretty regular w/her Cut Away Half & easily making returns. Max R. is turning out to be a prodigy w/flying trapeze as he pulls like the best of flyers & learns like circus sponge! And, our wayward Iris F. stopped by for a little while in hopes of flying into a class. It was great to see her again!
This past Fri, the flyer-formerly-known-as Amy W. & I played around & got a really fun round trip: B/E Splits into a Straddle Cut/Catch then an Angel return!
Over this past Sunday, Evin L. made her complete, triumphant return to flying trapeze by going for & grabbing her 1st return bar (off her B/E Splits) in much too long a wait. Congratulations, Evin! Welcome back...
Here's one of my latest (and, highest) Double Back Tucks:
And, after about 3 years of growing my black mane, I cut off 16" of my hair. I'm donating it to Lock of Love; hopefully, it will go on to make someone happy.

This night's flying showed the promise & energy that reminded me why we fly...!
The powerful Allegra G. was timing her Half Turn catch w/our Manny. It's there if she wants it! Elegant Maryam W. accomplished a nice Split w/half turn to the mat/net to develop that OOL. Bright-eyed Kristin R. learning to open her shoulders more in the F/E of her swing. Tight-bodied Thais K. was looking good w/her B/E Planche OOL as well as w/her Splits.
Emily going for her Cut Away Half catch! And, she easily made a few more Half Turn returns off her B/E Splits catch. It's not a fluke Emily! Feisty Galit E. working her Mod & returning to basics by working her Half Turns. Karen D. is gonna be ready to make some nice returns soon as she practices out of my hands off her Birdie catch. Kristy M. got her Cut Away return again! It's not a fluke, Kristy! Newly minted mommy, Emma G., is back & ready to push her training to new levels & into new areas!
Alex K. had an epiphany w/her turn around on the bar, making it easy for her. Good work, Alex. W/a little boost from our Manny, this night was the 1st time Lex R. got on the return bar all w/his own power & form! Great flying, Lex! Lidia for "down unda" practiced her violent, "full-contact" remount of the pedestal board before making an easy return during catches. Colleen also got the return bar, and, like Lex, she didn't even wait for her swing to fade before being really tough on herself!? Sharron is incorporating a rather nice pull into her swing.
And, the spot light of the night goes on Max R.! After incorporating an impressive pull into his swing, Max remounted the pedestal board for his 1st time tonight!

Friday was a long day...!
At 6am, our Lisa R. & I arrived at a stage in Brooklyn to participate in the shooting of a Wachovia commercial. I helped w/the aerial rigging & Lisa performed on silks as well as hand balancing w/ & w/o the lithe & gracious aerialist, Aiden. Aiden also performed on a makeshift flying trapeze bar I rigged. I only wish I got more pictures (but I was working).

Everyone on the crew such was very nice & professional. We had a nice time right through the afternoon.
Later that night, I found myself teaching on our little rig for a birthday party til 11pm. Newcomer Nina celebrated her birthday w/her mom & friends Sarah, Ryan, Marc, Becca, Tony & Hillary!

Tonight was a time where time brought some friends back, caused some to revisit tricks & others to realize new accomplishments...!
The feisty Galit E. is commanding her Mod very well. Worldly & lithe Emma S. stopped in for a short while to take a few swings. The determined Emily S. made 3 returns in a row! The uber-capable Emma G. returned to our little circle to dust off her Layout, Fwd Over, Shoot & Split. The powerful & incredibly adept Molly G. is in pursuit of her Full Twisting Layout again. The sometimes frantic-flying Fran S. is learning to smoothly remount the pedestal board.
W/her bionic shoulder, Denise M. caught her B/E Planche for her 1st time! And, for some really big news: Tanya E. made her 1st OOL catches! After working so hard & diligently on taking her B/E Splits OOL for months, her efforts paid off & she made her catches very safely & w/o question! Thank you, Tanya, for your hard work & faith in our instruction & guidance.

The feisty Galit E. is commanding her Mod very well. Worldly & lithe Emma S. stopped in for a short while to take a few swings. The determined Emily S. made 3 returns in a row! The uber-capable Emma G. returned to our little circle to dust off her Layout, Fwd Over, Shoot & Split. The powerful & incredibly adept Molly G. is in pursuit of her Full Twisting Layout again. The sometimes frantic-flying Fran S. is learning to smoothly remount the pedestal board.
W/her bionic shoulder, Denise M. caught her B/E Planche for her 1st time! And, for some really big news: Tanya E. made her 1st OOL catches! After working so hard & diligently on taking her B/E Splits OOL for months, her efforts paid off & she made her catches very safely & w/o question!
